This fall, the Viterbo women's cross country team won a Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship and competed at the NAIA national meet in Vancouver, Wash.
Months later, the team's efforts are still being recognized.
On Feb. 20, the La Crosse Area Sports Commission named the V-Hawk women as the 2010 La Crosse Area College Team of the Year.  Viterbo beat out two outstanding programs in UW-La Crosse's wrestling and gymnastics teams.
"This is a special honor for our team," Coach John Metelko commented.  "All of the nominees had spectacular seasons and have contributed to athletics in our community. While we had a year that included many firsts for our team, our student-athletes are already looking forward to setting new goals for next fall's season.
Each member of our team contributes to our success and we are looking forward to continuing to push ourselves to be our best."
"Being recognized as college team of the year is a great honor to all of us on the team," said junior runner Cindy Leuck.  "To me it is really giving all of our hard work and accomplishments a title."
The V-Hawks appear to be in position for another great season next fall, as all of their top runners are set to return.
