I was a bit surprised and overwhelmingly pleased to hear that the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) support the federal health care reform bill. FSPA Sister Marlene Weisenbeck, president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, was quoted as saying that the FSPA "supports this legislation because it provides health care coverage for millions of people, therefore expanding justice - the right to health care - for all."
I would like to thank the FSPA, as well as the Catholic Health Association for their support and advocating for the bill to be passed, even though the FSPA does not agree with every part of the bill, such as the abortion language and possible assistance the reform would provide.
However, it is truly admirable that the FSPAs have been able to consider the benefits of the entire bill and its positive impact on millions of people who will finally gain access to health care.
