Sick: stay home please

How many of you have had to sit next to someone who looks like the incarnation of death in recent weeks? Sickness seems to be everywhere and with the scare of H1N1, everyone is waiting on tenterhooks for someone they know to get it. However, some sickies still feel the need to come to class or work and "share the wealth" of their illness with everyone else.

Now, I understand this desire not to miss class. In fact, I'm a little ridiculous about it. I hate the idea of being behind in my work and not knowing what's going on. But, I can't say that if I was sick, like sick, sick, I would continue going to class.

I just love when someone sitting next to me or behind me is hacking up a lung with their chest-rattling cough, or sneezing, or sniffling constantly. It's great. I mean, I really like being acutely aware of how ill that person is and at the same time cognizant of the fact that every time they cough or sneeze, they're sending little, projectile germs into the air for me to breathe. Yes. Awesome.

So, my words of advice: if you're ill, stay home, rest, get lots of fluids. Take some medicine to ease your symptoms so that you'll feel better (and your roommates won't kill you for complaining all the time). Remember not to cough or sneeze into your hands, but onto your sleeves. But most importantly, wash your hands, well and often.

If you're concerned about getting the flu, or just want to nip it in the bud before it happens, Health Services still has flu shots available for $14. For those incubi of viral plague, stay home and get well. We'd like to see you in class without the box of Kleenex next to you on the desk.
