Viterbo's enrollment has been increasing each year since I've been here and with the new majors and sports offered, one wonders where all these students are actually living. The housing crunch has definitely set in the last two years and there still is not a clear answer to this problem.
I've seen the double rooms turned into triples and they do not look that appealing. Even with the discount in cost I think a majority of students would prefer more space. I know Rose Apartments are newer and obviously the first choice among students. However, with only one newer apartment out of all the housing, the majority of students wind up living in one of the older apartments on campus.
Students currently living on campus should speak up and let the administration know what types of housing issues need to be addressed, especially the importance of finding more room on campus for students to live comfortably.
I think it's time for the administration to start addressing this issue more closely. If Viterbo wants to continue increasing enrollment, then they need to find more housing options for students. Residence Life states that "living on campus is an important experience . . . . and work hard to create an atmosphere that supports academics, personal growth, and development."
I'm not saying Residence Life isn't doing this, but to really succeed with its own mission, Viterbo needs to address and hopefully start fixing this annual housing problem on campus. If there is a housing plan in the near future, I think students deserve to know if and how the campus housing is going to change.
