Countdown: T-minus three days. Destination: Spring Break 2010. Goal: To have an awesome vacation.

With Spring break approaching, I'm sure most of us are thinking of all the ways we can party in a week. However, there's also something to be said for moderation during a period of time that generally spells trouble for many college students.

Time off of school usually seems to be a time for everyone to relax, just for a bit. Letting loose and having some fun are things we're all entitled to. Too often though "having fun" gets out of hand. We've all heard the stories and seen the Dateline specials of spring breaks gone wrong: drinking and partying to the point of oblivion, resulting in assaults, abductions, or even death (by alcohol poisoning or otherwise). Why would we want to let something like that happen to ourselves or our friends?

Simply put, a lot of these issues could be solved by simply being smart. Using common sense to determine when we've had enough, making sure we're not walking home alone, and generally keeping an eye out for each other.

This spring break, have fun! Enjoy yourselves wherever you may go. Take some time to let loose and be with friends, but be smart. Too many kids have made spring break a little too exciting. Let's not do the same here.
