Another male college student was recently found in the Mississippi River after missing for two days. Craig Meyers, 21-year-old Western Technical College, was found in roughly 20 to 25 feet of water near the Courtyard by Marriott hotel and the Riverside Center buildings. Meyers was a former student and state champion wrestler at West Salem High School.

Meyers is the ninth person, all males, to drown in the Mississippi River in La Crosse since 1997. One victim was former Viterbo student, Nathan Kapfer, who disappeared on Feb. 18, 1998. A fisherman found his body in April that year.

Students at Western Technical College's Supervisory Management class have created a scholarship in memory of fellow student Craig Meyers. Donations for the Craig Meyers Memorial Scholarship will be accepted through March 12. Donations can be mailed to the college's foundation office at 400 N. Seventh St., La Crosse, WI, 54601. Donations can also be dropped off at the La Crosse and Sparta college campuses.
