The president of Viterbo's board of trustees, Sister Mary Ann Gschwind, of the FSPA recently released a statement summarizing the five-year review of Viterbo's president, Rick Artman.
An outside consultant was hired to conduct the comprehensive evaluation, which included interviews with over forty university staff and community members.
It is customary for a president to undergo such reviews, the purpose of which is to discern the effectiveness of the president's leadership in terms of academics, mission, ethics, and morals, among other facets, Gschwind said.
The evaluation turned out overwhelmingly positive according to Gschwind, reflecting Artman's "outstanding leadership since 2006."
Artman's devotion to the Franciscan values was particularly noted, especially in the relationships that he and his wife Joan have taken the time to foster in his Five years with Viterbo.
Gschwind's summary of the report made note of the few questions prompted by the review, like "When new programs are added, are current under-utilized programs evaluated? How big can Viterbo become? And not surprising, is more parking possible?"
While ultimately Artman will answer these questions, they are good thoughts for the rest of the community as well, because as Artman's history of leadership has shown, he will not hesitate to seek the input of the larger community.
Gschwind's statement made it clear that the trustees expected nothing less than the stellar report they received. And as long as everyone else is congratulating Dr. Artman, Lumen would like to extend its praise for our president as well.
Thank you President Artman, your support is our encouragement.
